2021-2031 Big Goal & Dream Big Campaign

Soroptimist International of the America's 2021-2031 Big Goal is to invest in the dreams of 500,000 more women and girls through access to education. That is 4 times the number of women and girls we have reached in the past 10 years. Our Award-winning Dream Programs will drive this impact, along with Big Goal Accelerator Projects. Live Your Dream Education & Training Awards For Women

The Live Your Dream Awards program is Soroptimist's major women's education project. Through the program, clubs assist women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program and must demonstrate financial need.

The application period each year is from July 1-November 15.

LOCAL IMPACT
Each year, Soroptimist International of Moreno Valley supports the Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards for Women program by presenting at least one $1,000 award to local applicants. In 2018, a combined total of $6,000 was awarded to seven new Live Your Dream Award recipients and two past recipients! In 2019, a combined total of $6,000 was awarded to seven new club-level recipients. We increased our collective impact in 2020 by awarding a combined total of $11,500 to ten new recipients! In 2021, we awarded a combined total of $7,000 to 14 new recipients. In 2022 we awarded a combined total of $6,000 to 7 new recipients, and our fist place club-level winnert was selected as a region finalist for an additional cash award. In 2023 we awarded a combined total of $2,100 to 5 new recipients and provided new clothing for their children; our first place club-level winner was selected as a region finalist for an additional cash award.

Dream It, Be It: Career Support For Girls

Dream It, Be It provides girls the guidance and resources they need to achieve their goals. Since its inception in 2015, Dream It, Be It has reached more than 83,000 girls in 14 countries and territories. The program targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. Soroptimist clubs work in partnership with girls in small groups or a conference setting to provide them with the information and resources they want and need to be successful. Girls come out with more confidence, new tools to overcome obstacles, and achievable goals for their future.

LOCAL IMPACT
Between October 2016 and March 2018, members of Soroptimist International of Moreno Valley presented a series of seven workshops to high school girls at Bayside Community Day School. Curriculum included Discovering Dreams, Exploring Careers, Creating Achievable Goals, Rising Above Obstacles, Turning Failure Into Success, Balancing Your Stress, and Putting Dreams Into Action.

In November 2019 and 2021, we increased our collective impact by delivering a full day DIBI conference for all female high school students attending Bayside Community Day School.. Besides covering all course curriculum, students participated in breakout sessions or panel discussions with several successful women from a variety of career professions who shared their career-path journey and insight. In March 2023, a similar full day conference was held at March Mountain High School, and another conference is planned for March 2024.

Since 2016, Moreno Valley Soroptimists have impacted the lives of 202 high school girls in the Moreno Valley Unified School District who participated in the Dream It Be It curriculum.

Rosemary Clayton Memorial Scholarship

The Rosemary Clayton Scholarship was established in honor of a woman dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls at both the local and international levels. A resident of Moreno Valley and loyal member of Soroptimist International as well as other service organizations, Rosemary Clayton was a model of selfless volunteerism, faithful friendship, and service to her community. The scholarship is open to high school senior girls in Moreno Valley who meet the eligibility criteria.

LOCAL IMPACT
In 2020, Soroptimist International of Moreno Valley awarded a combined total of $7,000 to its 11 recipients. In 2021, a combined total of $7,500 was awarded to 13 recipients. In 2022, a combined total of $8,000 was awarded to 7 recipients. In 2023, a combined total of $6,500 was awarded to 12 recipients. Since the debut of this signature program in 2015, a combined total of $45,250 scholarship awards have been awarded to 67 college-bound girls.

Dora Mamea Community Service $1,000 Scholarship Award

The family of Dora Mamea established the Dora Mamea Memorial Scholarship to recognize a senior high school girl who exemplified a love for community service. Dora Mamea was a loyal member of Soroptimist International of Moreno Valley who lived a humble life of service, never searching for the limelight. She enjoyed true happiness by seeking and finding ways to serve her friends, family, and community. Scholarship applications are accepted from senior girls attending a high school in the Moreno Valley Unified School District who have participated in extensive voluntary community service.

Royce Goodwin Memorial Community Service $3,000 Scholarship Award

The Goodwin Family established this scholarship to recognize a senior high school girl who exemplifies a love for community service. The Goodwins believe volunteering to be at the very core of a good human. They made a living by what they got but they made a life by what they gave to their community. They believe that true happiness comes to those who seek and find ways to serve.
